About Consortium
Alternative Use Plc (AU Plc) is the lead partner in an EFW strategic alliance of ten major equipment manufacturers with a net asset base of in excess of $US 58 billion, employing over 155,000 people worldwide.
 |
To work together as a team to promote the many financial and environmental benefits of on-site waste disposal coupled with energy production. |
 |
To underwrite the efficacy and viability of EFW systems through the combined strength of guarantees from each partner company - i.e. there is peer pressure on each partner to meet the designated performance criteria in every client system specification. |
The vital essence of AU Plc's system design is the configuration of widely sold and well-proved equipment, interfaced to provide a bespoke, fully automated solution for each individual client. All equipment used in a client's proposed EFW scheme has been proven over many years, in many countries and in a wide range of applications.
Potential clients are required to sign a confidentiality
agreement to maintain the integrity of all parties,
and each project is covered by a client specific consortium
agreement.

Over the past 31 years
we have extensive experience in various branches
of the engineering industry specialising in power.
This incorporates project finance, manufacture,
installation and operation of mechanical and electrical
plant, project and contract management. Among many
other projects:
- We have commissioned a series of Hydro
Power Stations in Peru utilising Francis
and Pelton Wheel turbines; governors, control
hydraulics, bearings and 11Kv switchgear,
and 11kV overhead lines to form a local distribution
grid.
- Recently completed Power Stations in Stoke
on Trent (UK) and Waterford (Ireland) in
liaison with the Renewable Energy and Energy
Efficiency Industries.
- Undertaken the construction of an 110MW
combined cycle power station in Bangkok,
Thailand using Combined Cycle Gas Turbine
which included 132kV substation, Boilers,
Steam Turbine, Switchgear and Civil Works.
The GE gas turbines were built under license.
- Completed the operation and maintenance
of Mechanical and Electrical plants at RAF
Radar stations in the UK.
- Constructed a 20MW Power Diesel base load
Power Station in Pakistan.
- Designed, managed construction and commissioned
gas fired Power Station in Turkey.
- Designed, managed construction and commissioned
gas fired Power Station in Abu Dhabi.
- Currently involved in rescue and re-commissioning
of Power Station complex in Carthage, Tunisia.
Have successfully commissioned plant, retrained
staff and brought to profitability.
- We are licensed to commission and operate
up to and including nuclear installations.
- On the 6th September 2004 AU Plc signed
contracts with the Government
of The Republic of Sierra Leone (Guaranteed
under the Promotion and Protection of Investment
No. 17 (2002) an agreement between the Government
of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and
Northern Ireland and the Government of the
Republic of Sierra Leone) To construct two
EFW Power Stations, fuelled by converting
300,000 tonnes of municipal solid waste (MSW),
100,000 tonnes of sewage sludge, 80,000 tonnes
of plastics and other waste being reclaimed
from two existing landfills, waste oils,
industrial, commercial and hospital waste
into gas that will fuel the gas engine/generators
which will produce in excess of 60MW (525,600MW/hr/pa).
The project will employ 1,500
people and is programmed to commence the
fourth quarter of 2007.
